Beautiful Landscape

PROGRAMS & PROJECTS.

Awarenesses is not enough. We want to empower local communities to be stewards of their beautiful natural resources. Additionally, we want to get you involved! Not just your dollars but real, hands-on work. Trust us, you won't forget it-

Community Conservation

We want to empower local communities to be stewards of their beautiful natural resources. Many Amazonian tribes and local populations already hold the River Dolphin in high esteem, even ascribing it mythical powers. Critical to any outreach will be listening to the concerns of the individual towns and villages and tailoring a specific approach to each.

Stop Wildlife Crime

Poaching remains a major concern for species across the Amazon. River dolphins are no exception. Fishermen "for years, poachers have targeted the dolphins, using their fatty blubber as bait to catch a carnivorous catfish called piracatinga, which is drawn to the scent of rotting flesh.

Early Education

Young people are the future. And this generation cares about their planet. Countless studies have shown that millennials  are far more likely to have a conservation based mindset than previous generation. We want to empower them by encouraging sustainable practices at home and inviting school tours out into the field for hands on learning

Marine Conservation

If poaching persists as problem, we can work toward finding alternative sources of fish bait. Dr Trujillo points out that more than 150 major hydroelectric dams are proposed for Amazonia. These would fragment dolphin habitat, and our research shows that we have very low statistical power to detect declines — possibly until they become irreversible.

Forest Restoration

Logging, mining and fossil fuel industry interests have been able to run roughshod over the River basin for far too long. We need to make them change their practices before it is too late. By increasing regulations while offering alternatives for more sustainable practices - its time to tell industry to get with the program or get out. Before it is too late.

Environmental Policy

We must remain vigilant in lobbying our elected officials to enact legislation to protect the river dolphin. And never feel like your voice doesn't matter. Check out our Twitter feed to see recent success stories in Brazil 🇧🇷  and Colombia 🇨🇴
